Only a Trump Administration Can Restore Law and Order

For two months, left-wing radicals have had carte blanche to burn, intimidate, assault, and even declare sovereignty on American soil. The time has come to stop tolerating these attacks on America and restore law and order. That’s precisely what President Trump is doing.

The incident that incited the first wave of rioting and destruction—the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25—has faded from news reports. Even allegations of “systemic racism” by U.S. police and the crusade to rid America of “racist” monuments to our Founders, heroes, and pioneers have peaked and are now receding.

Yet, the lawlessness continues.

At every point during this outpouring of violence and hatred, throughout every insult to our nation and history, the American people have responded with patience, understanding, and restraint. The federal government, under President Trump’s leadership, has always tried to protect legitimate protestors’ right to assemble and make their grievances heard.

Even on the president’s own doorstep outside the White House, law enforcement response has been measured and focused on defending our country’s most hallowed monuments with minimum force. Even when insurgents took over a section of Seattle and declared independence from American law and sovereignty, this administration refrained from using force to intervene and permitted Mayor Jenny Durkan’s “summer of love” to go on unhindered. Her decision to allow the “autonomous zone” eventually cost two young black Americans their lives.

Patience has not been rewarded. Left-wing political violence continues to flare up, each time more organized, more brazen, and more explicit about its desire to overthrow the American system.

We recently saw new riots, looting, and attacks on police in Seattle. In Portland, arsonists attacked a police union hall and a federal courthouse. In Chicago, rioters assaulted police officers as they attempted to destroy the city’s iconic monument to Christopher Columbus. When peaceful demonstrators, including conservative columnist Michelle Malkin, tried to assemble in Denver to show support for police, baton-wielding leftist thugs battered them, “shut down” the rally, and then bragged about it on social media.

In all these instances, the most violent elements are showing themselves increasingly willing to injure police and their political opponents.

Enough is enough. Those responsible for this new wave of insurrection must face the full force of federal law. For the sake of the country, their apologists within state and local governments can no longer be allowed to protect them from justice.

“This rampage of violence shocks the conscience of our nation, and we will not stand by and watch it happen,” the president forcefully declared while announcing that federal law enforcement officers would be deployed to several cities that have proven unable or unwilling to maintain order.

The necessity and justice of the ongoing federal intervention are undeniable to every honest person who values the rule of law, free speech, free assembly, and the integrity of property. Only President Trump’s will stands between America’s out-of-control cities and complete surrender to the mob.

The media and Democratic Party make it clear that they stand with the insurgents, not with the American people. Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler is so committed to defending and preserving anarchy that he is denying American federal law enforcement its rightful responsibility to enforce federal law against people attacking federal property and federal officers. The left-wing media march in lock-step with Wheeler, referring to a federal presence in Portland as an “invasion” of “secret police,” and violent attacks on peaceful pro-police protesters in Denver as “opposing speech.”

One institution alone stands against the dangerous, destructive monster that liberals have created with their disregard for the law: the Trump administration.

Because state and local Democrat officials refuse to restore order, the federal government must. That is what is happening. There is a limit to what the American people are willing to endure. Thanks to President Trump’s determination to preserve American democracy, a reckoning is underway. As long as we stand united behind the founding principles that have guided our nation for generations, we will prevail against this latest assault upon our most basic values.
